Long time since I've updated my journal, or had time to devote to photography

Where to begin? I recently completed teaching a theatrical lighting class for a local college, which was as much a learning experience for me as it was for my students. One of those students (a high-school senior) volunteered to help me design a show at the Chanticleer Theatre, so I took her on as my lighting assistant. I let her design about 80% of the show, with much advising and supervision, and she did an excellent job! I'm going to post some of the results here in the near future.
While taking photos of the show, I realized that I need a faster lens for some of the fast action and low light levels onstage, and so tonight I ordered a 50mm prime f/1.8, which should be here this weekend! Huzzah!
I also ordered a copy of the movie "12 Angry Men," because I just found out today that I'm officially the lighting designer for the Omaha Community Playhouse production. On the downside, it's not a paid gig. I will still be working there Mon-Fri 9am-5(6,7)pm as the shop foreman, with this additional responsibility in my free time. On the upside, this is a lighting design for an excellent show at one of the largest theatres in the area, and a chance to impress many people with widespread theatre connections. I'm not likely to give up my day job in the near future, but this could score me additional lighting design jobs in the future. In other words, totally worth it.
